Your recovery code

Your password never reaches our servers, so we cannot reset it for you. The recovery code is the only other key to your account.

What it is

A 256-bit random code generated on your device when you sign up. It wraps a copy of your private key, which is stored on the server encrypted in a way only the code can open.

When you need it

• You forgot your password.
• You want to sign in on a new device and the old one is gone.

Go to Sign in → Forgot password, confirm your e-mail, enter the recovery code and choose a new password. Your hosts, keys and team access come back unchanged.

If you lose both

Without the password and the recovery code we can only give you a fresh account under the same e-mail. Personal hosts and keys are gone; a team owner can give you access to team hosts again.

Note: Store the code in a password manager or print it. Do not keep it only in ReTerminal.
